Awakening
Spiritual awakening may sound more out there than it actually is. The term spiritual awakening simply refers to the experience of becoming more in touch with your spiritual side; whatever that is to you. For many people they describe it as feeling a greater sense of awareness or groundedness, a new, wider perspective on life, or a deep sense of purpose.
How can Somatic therapy Help?
A spiritual awakening is, at its core, a return to your true self—an opening to a new way of seeing reality and understanding who you really are. Somatic therapy can support this process by helping you practice being fully present and connected to your body, mind, and emotions.
Unlike talk therapy, somatic therapy doesn’t just focus on thoughts and feelings—it also addresses how trauma lives in the body. By working through both the mental and physical effects of past experiences, somatic therapy helps create the grounding and awareness needed to move through a spiritual awakening with more ease and stability.
What a Spiritual Awakening is and what it isn’t?
The term ‘spiritual awakening’ suggests a single moment, but it’s easier to understand as an ongoing process of self-discovery. It’s a gradual letting go, allowing the expression and creativity of your innermost nature to emerge. While it can be an “ah-ha” moment, it can also be a gradual discovery through years of practice. It is a recognition that you are not simply your thoughts or emotions, and a shift to being present in the moment.
While a spiritual awakening can provide an immense increase in personal growth and understanding, there are some misconceptions about what happens after.
Permanent bliss or happiness: You’ll still have difficult emotions, but you’ll be less identified with them. They can even be more intense, but pass through more quickly.
The end of your problems: You’ll still need to pay your bills, navigate relationships, and deal with the practical challenges of life. You won’t magically develop a charismatic aura or be venerated by all who see you. Physical pain, grief, and loss don’t go away.
Being superior to others: An awakening doesn’t make you more evolved than others. It simply makes you feel more aware and present in your life.
A final destination: Awakening isn’t a plateau you can arrive at. It’s an ongoing process of surrendering and acceptance. There are always subtler layers to explore and discover.
